The controls in the game are fairly straightforward. In fact, if you’ve played any match-3 games before you would be able to get straight into the game like a fish is taken to the water. However, Match-3 Hidden Treasure Hunt has something unique to offer! In addition to the usual swipe up, down, left and right to make your matches, you can even swipe diagonally to do so. This opens up a whole new way of playing a match-3 game and well, since it’s a unique feature, it might need a bit of getting used to.

That said, the game is basically similar to most match-3 games out there on the internet. You’ll need to match 3 or more of the same type of creatures to remove them from the playing field. If you match 4 of them together, you’ll get a special creature that can clear entire rows or columns when matched.

For match-5s, the special powers that you can get depend on how you match the creatures. If you did it in an L or T-shaped manner, then you’ll get an explosive creature that will vaporize all the other creatures around it. If the match is done linearly (either horizontally or vertically), you will get a super-awesome underwater depth charge instead. You can activate the depth charge by swapping it with any nearby creature, and the charge will clear the entire board of all creatures that are of the same type as the one you’ve just swapped it with.

Match-3 Hidden Treasure Hunt is a very entertaining game as it likes to mix things up by varying the game modes, including the fast-paced timed modes, as well as adding in obstacles like jelly tiles or seaweed blocks. There are also times when you’ll need to drop all the anchors to the bottom of the board as well. Not to mention, the difficulty of the game is further ramped up as you are given limited number of moves to complete the level objectives. Naturally, if you failed to finish a level, you’ll lose a life, and as lives tend to regenerate at a painstakingly slow rate, it is in your best interest to try to reduce the number of failed levels.

Interestingly, you’ll be well-rewarded with randomly provided power-ups provided that you managed to complete a level successfully... that is by getting 3 stars per level. There are many power-ups available in this game, one of which includes the Pickaxe. You can use it to remove 1 creature of your choice from the board. There are also power-ups like the Swapper, which allows you to switch the positions of 2 creatures on the board, and Crossfire that will clear both row and column at the same time when matched. As long as you have power-ups at your beck and call, you’ll be able to, somewhat, breeze through even the most challenging levels, but of course... where’s the fun in that?

The game currently has 4 chapters, each consisting of 25 levels, for you to play while exploring the different parts of the island. However, don’t worry about running out of levels too soon – before you know it, the game will have added even more new levels! If you’re a tad bit competitive in nature, well, there’s also a leaderboard where you can compare your score with your friends and see how you rank.
